Breighton’s Map Disaster

Breighton was working on a simple map assignment for school today. He finished and walked in to show everyone his work and immediatly started into a monologue:

“There is something sad that happened on my map. A tree fell down on the road and the people have to get from the house to the market to buy food for their kid at school. The tree blocked the road so the kid can’t have lunch at school. And the kid was sad he didn’t have any food to eat for lunch. “

Busch Gardens and Jack Hanna

I was so excited to go to Busch Gardens today. It was a nice break from schoolwork. However, I probably learn more out doing things somedays. Today was one of those days! We walked and read about a lot of animals.

I spent a fair amount of time in with the kangaroos, as usual.

We explored the under water view tunnels in Jungala and learned abut piranha.

IMG_0022

I went into the pop-up and got a super close view of tigers.

IMG_0025

I went on the Air Grover roller coaster 11 times!

IMG_0010

I climbed super high in Jungala. I am the little yellow speck in the jutting out triangle.

IMG_0013

We rode a bunch of other rides since the kids area was pretty empty. The lines for the bigger rides were about an hour!! Spring Break combined with Easter week at it truly made it a zoo.

Mommy kept an eye on the clock and we headed to a show about an hour before it started.

Today Jack Hanna was at Busch Gardens giving a talk for Earth Day. He brought a bunch of animals I had only read about!

Jack was a wonderfully nice man.

Egyptian cat… Caracal!

DSCN0572

The name escapes me of this little guy. He is similar to the bearcat below.

We hung out at the end of the show and got Jack’s autograph and a photo with him! He was super nice.

On the way out we saw a 10 day old 9-banded armadillo!

DSCN0593

We also say wallabies, kangaroos, flamingos, skunks and many other animals in the show. I was SO amazed. I told Mommy that I wanted to be just like Jack Hanna someday and own my own zoo and put on zoo shows. You all know how I LOVE to do my “Mrs. Sue” shows! I have been busy lately designing zoo habitats for the future!

Homeschool Zoo Day

Today we met up at Lowry Park Zoo for a day with a lot of our homeschool friends. I made a few new friends and rekindled some old friendships. We had a blast seeing all the animals. We all even waited patiently for a camel ride!

DSCN0540

Five kids on a camel! Emmerson was supposed to ride too but he wanted to ride with Mommy.

DSCN0543

We all got along so well.

DSCN0544

Emmerson and I had to be a bit goofy!

DSCN0546

Once the zoo thinned out I rode the Tazmanian Tiger roller coasted with my new “girlfriend” fourteen times! We had a LOT of fun!

DSCN0548

We then rode the train for a while. It was such a fun time.

DSCN0550

Heading out after 8 hours at the zoo!!!! LONG day!

Tampa History Museum for Homeschool History Days

I had a great time at the museum for the homeschool day. They had about 10 tables offering a lot of different activities. I loved the identify the object. I was amazingly awesome and got all the objects correct! Obviously not their names but their functions.

DSCN0515

This was an atlatl.

DSCN0519

I loved figuring out how everything could have worked.

DSCN0520

Topographic map of my knuckles!

DSCN0522

Learning all about the topographic maps and how they are made.

DSCN0525

I knew the entire compass!

DSCN0526

I learned how to sort and classify objects.

DSCN0531

DSCN0534

We took a behind the scenes tour and got to see the archive rooms!

DSCN0536

I loved the way the vaults moved around.

DSCN0539

We had such a great time!

Florida Aquarium

I was overjoyed at my reward for doing well at the studio yesterday. Mommy took us to the aquarium for the entire day!

I just loved seeing all the animals. The crowds were pretty light other than a few school groups but we stayed ahead of them.

DSCN0472

The horseshoe crabs had Emmerson and me giggling for a long time. I think I was more happy that no one was hustling me along and I could watch for as long as I wanted.

DSCN0473

After spending nearly an hour watching the otters swim around we visited the rest of the wetlands. This spoonbill kept splashing me with water!

DSCN0475

We watched a show about training animals. I don’t think I took my eyes or ears off things. I told Mommy I really want to learn more about training animals. They had a trained skunk, hawk, gopher tortoise, and a 9 banded armadillo. I was really impressed that they could train so many different animals.

DSCN0477

The alligator was not really trained but desensitized to people (a dangerous thing as they get bigger).

DSCN0478

One of my highlights! I LOVE leafy sea dragons!

DSCN0482

I greatly enjoyed checking out all the seahorses.

DSCN0483

Okay Mom stop taking me away from the fish for silly pictures!

DSCN0486

Creating our own weird fish combinations.

DSCN0487

We took a really neat behind the scenes tour of the aquarium. I loved the “commissary” or kitchen where they prep all the food for the animals. I learned how there are more volunteers than actual employees at the aquarium.

DSCN0490

A view from above!

DSCN0492

I was right up front the entire time.

DSCN0493

I made sure I never left the guides side! She gave a lecture about keeping our hands off of things and feet behind the yellow lines. I walked with my hands in my pockets and was super careful for to cross the lines.

DSCN0494

Once again, right up front! I really wanted o know what was in the bucket of food!

DSCN0499

Watching feeding time for the fish!

DSCN0500

The giant sea turtle was pretty cool. He was such a pig!

DSCN0502

DSCN0504

The end of our tour was petting another alligator!

DSCN0506

I was right up in the front again. Mommy said I needed to step back. I missed that the guide was slowly stepping backwards whenever I got a bit too close. Completely fearless! haha

DSCN0508

DSCN0510

On the way out I saw this sign!!! OTTERS!

DSCN0511

They have a tunnel under the ground where the otters can enter the indoor habitat for the night.

DSCN0512

At the end of the day I really wanted to spend some of my savings to adopt an otter. You got a stuffed animal, a tote bag, picture and certificate and a few other things. The best part was that the money goes to helping the two new baby otters that they recently acquired.

DSCN0514

What a great day at the aquarium. We played until after 4pm. So much fun!
