Mom declared today “OUTSIDE DAY”. We have been cooped up in the house lately with school tasks. We played outside most of the day and enjoyed out bonus day not he calendar. I had gotten a basketball for Christmas and have been playing with it a lot in the driveway. I am no NBA candidate but I am learning to dribble and not whack myself in the face. Don’t ask!
Month: February 2016
Poor Kitty
Lightning got into a fight with a strap on a box and it won. She managed to rip off nearly her entire nail. Mom was great at doctoring her up and did everything she could to make Lightning comfy. There was a LOT of blood.
In the morning we took her to the vet to have it looked at. The vet was pleased with the medical attention Lightning had received already. He looked at the blood toe and gave us a pat on the back for quick action. He got rewrapped and sent home to heal.
She absolutely doesn’t like her “boot”. She already chewed and shook this one off so Mom wrapped her leg up further and it seems to have held.
Poor kitty was exhausted.
*Update. After 5 days of the boot she is boot free. Her toe is healing well and no signs of infection. I think we are in the clear!
Hedgie Time
I know I don’t write about Hedgie must anymore. He is still doing great. He is a wonderful pet. He is getting older. The average hedgehog lives 3-5 years. Hedgie is now just shy of 3 years old so he is in his senior years. He is still super active and runs all night long in his wheel.
He got a bath and nail trimming today.
Armed Forces Museum
We went for another trip to the Armed Forces Museum. It has been about a year since we went last time. We got the same docent, Mr. Mike. He is a giant file of information. Â he knows about every single thing in every single display.
We explained all the little things. We learned a lot about uniforms, weapons, ranks and more.
I liked the little grenades. You pull the pin and then bang them on your helmet to activate them before you toss them.
We learned about island hopping and how we fought against Japan.
I checked out the periscope and found our car in the parking lot.
D-Day was an interesting display. Mr Mike is full of stories, some probably true, others probably not.
I think the only place I got upset, besides the trenches, was the concentration camp exhibit. It made me sad to think that people could be so mean to others based on religion, race and thoughts.
We learned about the empty place settings at military tables.
We wrapped up in the weapons room. I thought the pin pistol was pretty cool. It was not much bigger than my thumb and shot a small pin filled with poison. Spies used it!
After the tour we met Grandma Susie at Sweet Tomatoes for a late lunch. I kind of over indulged with the desserts, again!
Orlando Madness
Today we went over to Orlando for a fun day of exploring. We started at Animal Kingdom for a new game they have called Lion Guard. The park was really empty, considering they had extra magic hours today.
For the Lion Guard quest you picked up a map and then tracked down 5 statues around the park.
After we got all the photos of the statues we headed to the train station to travel to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. We were waiting for the train and Emmerson was asked to go with a staff member. He refused unless we all went. We got to ride with Rafiki to open up Planet Watch!
I thought we should take a photo with all the Rafiki’s we saw.
We got in the VERY long (non existent) line to take the oath. They didn’t need to see our photos and just took our word for it.
We got cool huge Lion Guard buttons.
We checked out surgery on a gazelle. It was being chemically castrated to prevent it for making babies.
More Rafiki!
We hiked the animal trails and opted to head out and over to I-Drive to see the Orlando Eye. We have passes to Legoland that get us into the EYE, SeaLife and the Wax Museum for free. There was no line for the Eye! Emmerson was scared. Apparently clinging to me was his way of calming down.
We watched a short 4-D video and then were loaded into our car (they only put 7 people in our car!)
Up we go!
There are cool iPads that you can take a tour and locate things in the distance.
I liked the Lockheed Martin Missile Factory!
We sat at the top for a minute. It was the only time it stopped. The view was awesome! The total height was 400 feet. The Gateway Arch in St. Louis is 230′ higher!
Next we visited Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. There were lot of interactive areas.
I was shocked that Abe Lincoln was so tall. We talked about the Gettysburg address and I told him I agreed with his politics.
Neil Armstrong was rather stiff just like his moon flag.
We were on TV! haha
We also broke into the Oval office and made a few prank phone calls.
Then checked under the resolute desk for the hidden compartments (we didn’t find any!).
Walt was pretty real looking.
I tossed up bunny ears with my pal Al!
He sucked punched me in the stomach.
Thomas just kept babbling about light bulbs.
Steve was styling his black mock neck turtle. Not a MENTION of Apple!
I smuggled E.T. out of the building.
Then was chased by a dinosaur!
When Katniss wasn’t looking I swiped her supply bags and a bow.
Up next was the SeaLife Aquarium. They had a lot of neat fish from all over the world. I was hoping to see more Florida species.
We took a behind the scenes tour and learned a lot about how they feed and care for the fish.
Our guide, Matthew, was amazing! He was very knowledgeable.
This is the quarantine room where fish stay that have just arrived or that will be live food.
We also got to see the dive bays where they feed the fish from and access the larger tanks.
They used ozone to help clean the water. They had a GIANT protein skimmer!
We had a great time! One more photo on the way out. Mom was impressed that the parking garage didn’t charge you to park!
Since our entire day cost only $5 each for the behind the scenes tour plus a fast food lunch and gas we had a fun ice cream treat!
We got home and my butterfly hatched! It was a pretty busy and exhausting super fun day!
