Weedon Island Salt Pond HIke

Today we went to Weedon Island for a Salt Pond Hike. We got to take water samples from the pier and a few ponds. We used a cool collection contraption.

We checked salinity, water temperature and turbidity. Turbidity was silly to check since we could see the bottom so we abandoned that measurement. We compared the ponds and their circulation to see how life would survive. the Most shallow pond had the highest salinity. I think this was because the water evaporated and there was little circulation with the kayak trails since the water level was so low. It was also the warmest pool, assuringly because it was the shallowest and heated up faster.

Checking salinity.

It was a cool hike as always with Ms. Libby, the IFAS Sea Grant agent.

Catching up

We went to the state fair last week. We pigged out on donuts as usual!

They are SO yummy!

We hung out in the 4-H area for a while and played fun games.

GaGa Ball is my favorite!

I loved the history of candy display this year.

They even had a loggerhead turtle made of jellybeans!

We supported the forest division again. No trees this year!

Sunday was a lazy day and we worked on our sewing projects.

This week we also got a secret master in the mail, Mail order Mysteries. We are trying to solve a case! The letter included a cool cipher we had to decode. With some google searching we found a templar cipher from the day of the knights and it worked!!

Homeschool PE is soccer this month. I am more of a “distractor” than a front point person. I have fun.

We made valentines cupcakes to take to archery. Everyone LOVED them.

Another voice lesson and the beginning of beautiful voices!

It was crowded at archery considering it was Valentine’s Day.

Wednesday we skated at homeschool skate and had another epic battle at Think Geek. Grandma had come to watch so we had a great time showing off our skating skills and saber battle skills!

Imagine That… More Archery

Dad and Mom got new bows this weekend. So they took over the range! We also have some nice new bag targets to shoot at!

And bow hooks on the fence!

Dad’s bow is super cool and really fast, I think 330feet per second?!

We think we have figured out my issues. My peep was sliding so Mom retied it. Also my sight finally broke. I got a new sight this week and am working on getting it set up. My groups are SO much tighter and I am hitting 20 and 30 yards again. I still have to fine tine everything but I am so much happier!

We went to the Long Center homeschool archery just for some more practice in different conditions. They had a shoot the jug contest. I nailed it!

And back at WAC, our second home!

Busy few weeks as usual

We had a fun 4-H meeting. I like sitting at the officers table! This year I am vice president. I also assumed the role of club historian.

I led a lesson on “what is a leaf” today. I taught everyone how to recognize leafs and structures. There is way more to it than you would think, ask me sometime!

We looked around at different plants and trees and tried to figure out what the leaves were. Everyone picked up really fast. It is quite a hard topic.

We also had a scavenger hunt and followed clues through the park.

We made it to ice skating a little late but had a great time skating with friends.

Of course we had to have an epic lightsaber battle at Think Geek at the mall.

I am trying to catch up the club scrapbook this week. We were a bit behind since he had no formal historian this year.

I am also now taking FLVS Marine Science. I am flying through the class. A lot of it is material I am familiar with. I bounce between rabbit holes of youtube videos and the class. Mom said she is impressed with how much I am enjoying the material compared to the other classes. This one seems to be laid out better and I have an AWESOME teacher.

All the fun and school we still have chores. Mom is semi-laid up with her wrist/hand/finger issue. She sees the doctor this week again and likely will have surgery. I get to vacuum! well, dance vacuum! BUSTED !

We also started voice lessons with Mrs. Kassie, my old drama teacher. She gets me and tolerate my bouncy personality.

We are learning music theory, reading, speech and so much more in the lessons. I am having a lot of fun singing!

We went to Tarpon Springs to see the manatees with our dear friends. We had a great time climbing trees and playing Pokemon Go too!

Emmerson and I had to lead another activity at 4-H. We taught about invasive species. This was a game we found online. It was all about an ecosystem of a pond. Each fish ate a different color food and in a different way. Invasive fish were introduced and we saw how quickly the pond ecosystem was upset and the biodiversity crashed. The kids int he club enjoyed playing a lot!

I am also working on my wanted poster for the club. We all have to make posters on different invasives. I picked melaleuca. This is just the rough of my poster as I ran out of club and nothing attached just yet!
