We tried out the Homeschool Chess Club at the Long Center this week. It was a lot of fun and we got a lot of individual attention from the coach. I learned some new moves and a bit of strategy. I really enjoyed the class and hope that it fits into our schedule more often.
Cool man hanging out at the dentist office. I got a clean checkup and no issues. They touched up my front tooth again as I had a tiny chip from normal wear and tear. Someday I will need to get a better fix for the two front teeth but the dentist thinks this will be good for many more years.
We opted to take a camping trip to Like Oak Florida to the Spirit of the Suwannee Campground on the Suwannee River. After a long drive up the state to near the Georgia border we arrived at camp. Daddy set up camp while we were sent off to get the lay of the land with Mom.Â
Daddy was even chilly and Mommy mad him wear a silly sweatshirt.
It was so cold we started growing stalactites.
I made friends with the girls at the camp site next to ours. The girl was my age and we built fairy gardens and had lots of adventures.
Her father even let me chop wood!
Dad went out for groceries and came back with a new truck!
One night we went to a show called Picking and Grinning. It was fun to watch all the people play and sing.
We hiked around the gigantic campground. We tried fishing and had no luck, it was too chilly.
We did a scavenger hunt and one clue led us to an outhouse. I opened the door after knocking and jumped back about 3 feet screaming.
We hiked down to the Suwannee River.
We enjoyed the playground. It was very old but well maintained. The merry-go-round attacked me and ripped my pocket off my jeans!
We finished the scavenger hunt but then had to find the Dragon Door. It took to the last day to finally find it!
At night 30,000-40,000 bats fly out of the resident bat house. It was amazing to see them flying out in droves. We kept our distance at first but then got brave and stood under the path. Mom and Dad said we probably had bat pee on us!
Packing up and heading home. The requirement of breaking camp is to photograph all of the treasures we found along our way.
Saying goodbye to our new friends.
I am trying very hard at gymnastics. I was able to eventually get into a straddle while hanging on the bars.
I am really good at walking on the balance beam.
The parallel bars were fun and I learned to swing very well.
The state fair is always really fun. We get in free because we are in 4H. Today was 4H day at the fair. We had fun making candles.
We watched several live shows. I really liked watching the high divers. I was hot in the sun but the show was fun.
We also saw an alligator show. I didn’t enjoy it because I felt bad for the alligator in the show. It was an educational show but the alligator didn’t look that happy.
Daddy couldn’t come to the fair with us this year so we had donuts for him.
We watched chicks hatching. We also saw all the 4H animals.
My favorite place is still the insect area. I loved petting all the bugs they brought along. I learned about crime scene science and how they can use bugs to determine how long something has been dead. Maybe this could be a new career for me?
