Pittsburgh again

The view from the top of the inclines.

DSCN0411

Right in the center is the Carnegie Science Museum and the USS Requin from the other day.

DSCN0412

Checking out the view with Uncle Matt before we took him to the airport.

DSCN0413

We took a short tour of the under works of the inclines. It was very cool to see all the huge wheels and motors that drive the incline.

Under the inclines... boys were awestruck

Heading back up.

DSCN0430

We poked around town for a while and ended at the Phipps Conservatory. We opted not to pay to go in because it was too close to when we had to take Matt to the airport.

At the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh

We ran around in the public gardens and peeked in all the windows we could.

With Uncle Matt at the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh

I really liked the statue of Christopher Columbus.

Lost in wonder about Christopher Columbus.

I had a great time with Uncle Matt. I am glad he got to come visit in Ohio.

Lake Erie—Frozen?

Grandma Susie, Uncle Matt, Emmerson, Mommy, Great Granny and me went to Lake Erie to view the frozen lake. It was amazingly cool to see the huge ice hunks.

DSCN0400

I was fascinated with the way that the ice broke apart into little crystals.

DSCN0402

Uncle Matt showed me how to skip stones out onto the ice. We opted for throwing them.

Lake Erie was frozen. Guess we never spent winters there... neither Matt nor I remember seeing it frozen

Good thing he had a firm grip on my hand. I probably would have fallen in! 🙂

DSCN0404

Huge chucks of ice.

DSCN0405

See all the crystal columns.

Frozen solid chucks

smash smash… very cool!

Ice chunks smashed appart. They made awesome looking ice crystals!

What a wonderful view. We brought back rocks to paint and a few shoes full of freezing cold sand.

Brrrrrr! Lake Erie!

I am really glad that I can share this with my Granny and Great Granny. I can’t wait to go back in the summer and try to catch a frog!

Pittsburgh, PA Fun

We were surprising Great Granny with a trip from Uncle Matt. Mommy took Emmerson and me to the Carnegie Science Museum. We enjoyed running around and seeing everything that they had to offer. I liked the aquariums. They even had baby seahorses that were only 1.5 weeks old.

DSCN0300

There was an entire room of model trains.

DSCN0303

TRAINS!

DSCN0305

I taught Emmerson all about circuits.

DSCN0306

I built an earthquake resistant building.

DSCN0309

I LOVED making giant bugs.

DSCN0312

I got to see a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach.

DSCN0319

Don’t tell Daddy, but I got to PET it too!

DSCN0320

More bug making.

DSCN0323

I found lots of buttons to push and things to play with… I was in my GLORY!

DSCN0324

DSCN0325

We shaw a show called “Flambe”. It was all about “solutions”. I wiggled my way in between a ton of teenagers and fired out answers faster than they could. Typical me! 🙂

DSCN0328

Just before the huge flame.

DSCN0330

Enjoying my “pear carmel flambe” ala mode. YUMMY!

DSCN0343

We toured the USS Requin. I so badly wanted to fire the torpedoes!

DSCN0346

I was amazed that the shop could sleep 39 people. The captain had a HUGE room compared to the rest of the TINY little bunks.

DSCN0348

I had a lot of fun on the ship.

DSCN0349

DSCN0351

I even found a triceratops!

DSCN0352

Chilly Ohio Spring Break

As usual we had a grand time on our Ohio vacation. We went to Riverside Gardens for “Plant the Seed to Read”. The MAYOR of Youngstown read a story about colors. I kept shouting out all the answers.

DSCN0280

He did a great time reading.

DSCN0281

DSCN0286

After the story time we took Grandma Susie and Great Granny Barbara back to the house and we went to Boardman Park for the Maple Sugar Festival. It was kind of boring. This one man was making bent iron. It was fun to watch him heat it up on his little stove. I was chosen to keep spinning a handle to fuel the fire to make it hotter.

DSCN0287

I think he forgot I was there. I just kept spinning the handle and spinning and spinning.

DSCN0289

Eventually he had me stop. I saw the hayride come back and I took off running. It was super chilly.

DSCN0290

Thank goodness Mommy brought my super cool new Night Fury hat.

DSCN0292

We saw many trees tapped for maple sugar. I am still amazed that it takes 30 gallons of sap from the tree to make 1 gallon of actual syrup!

DSCN0295

Later I went digging for worms. This is always a huge highlight of my trip up to Ohio. Mommy and Grandma Susie were sitting in the garage trying to stay warm and I was LOOKING for worms… Hmmmm… I don’t think Mommy meant for me to do this!

DSCN0296

DSCN0297

Mommy had to replace the bricks 5 times during the trip. I just kept thinking the worms would come up!

DSCN0298

Granma’s HUggin Farm and Dinosaur World

We took a trip out to Plant City to Granma’s Huggin Farm. We got to pet a ton of animals. I loved hugging all the rabbits.

DSCN0233

In the turkey pen I found two little quail eggs. Mommy said I have very keen spotting skills.

DSCN0235

Showing off the eggs I spotted.

DSCN0237

Petting a baby chick. I was more fascinated by the incubators.

DSCN0240

My friend Zachary thought the chicks were cool too.

DSCN0241

Granma teaching us about spring onions. I was right up front the entire tour of the garden. I asked a bunch of questions and was quick to answer when questions were asked. I really like gardening.

DSCN0244

Talking to Granma about rosemary.

DSCN0248

I am just so at peace in nature.

DSCN0253

HAYRIDE!

DSCN0255

I call this the vampire pig. it is about a three years old and weights about 500 lbs!

DSCN0263

Having so much fun watching the animals.

DSCN0270

HORSE RIDE!

DSCN0272

Once we wrapped up the fun of finding bugs and a mud dobber next we headed out of the farm. We grabbed a few drinks at a gas station and headed to Dinosaur World. It was getting hot hot hot outside so we didn’t stay too long. We dug for bones and visited all the dinos.

DSCN0275

DSCN0276

I love feeding the koi. Mommy kept telling me I was going to fall in. SO of course, I would lean out even further!

DSCN0279

We were all tuckered out afterwards. I willing scarfed down a chicken taco from a taco cart in the parking lot of a gas station down the street. Mommy said they were some really good tacos and she was super proud of me for trying something new!
