My caterpillars made some really cool chrysalises and a few weeks later they HATCHED! It was like a blood bath! I learned that along with a pretty butterfly comes a LOT of red bloody goo (called meconium).
All 10 of my caterpillars made it to the butterfly stage! 🙂
They were very pretty. They were called “painted Ladies”.
Mommy let me kneep them to take them to show and tell at school. On the way to school we noticed that the butterflies had laid eggs and the eggs were hatching. This meant that after school we had to let them go so we didn’t have a zillion caterpillars crawling around our house with nothing to eat.
I was VERY VERY SAD!
This was very traumatic to say goodbye to them. After all, I raised them!!
Mommy and Daddy chose the butterfly garden on the side of the house as a good place to be free.
We opened the top and they didn’t want to leave!
I tried to convince Mommy that they should stay!
Mommy disagreed. She stuck her hand in and the butterflies crawled right on her finger.
I said my good-byes again!
Then I huffed and puffed.
And puffed some more
Are you going to fly away??
Finally, they all said good-bye and flew off to make new butterflies and enjoy their short little lives! 🙁
