Last Night in Asheville and Yummy S’mores

Grandpa got the fire started in his new fire pit!

The firewood was nice and dry so the fire started quickly.

Trying to be patient while waiting for the fire to be ready.

Rain delay!

Fire barely hanging on.

Success! Mom andmDad bought a Campfire S’mores Kit. It was fantastic. The graham crackers were amazingly crisp and thick. The chocolate was way better than Hersheys. Of course the marshmallows were perfect, Campfire brand always is!

I ate 3 full s’mores plus 2 marshmallows.

Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for a great vacation.

Nature Morning in Asheville

We were up late, had breakfast ans headed out to play. Emmerson and I spent the morning playing on the hill, aka tree square. We came back and got Mom and went to the lake.

We hunted for pond life and bugs.

Checking out life off of the bridge.

Tide would be proud of us dirty kids! The way childhood should be!

Some of our treasures!

We are off again as Mom refuses to allow us inside until lunch!

Grandfather Mountain Linville, NC

We were up early despite staying up so late! I was dino dancing while Grandma and Grandmpa got cleaned up.

We drove out to Grandfather Mountian, about 2 hours away. I got a little car sick but never threw up. After a quick lunch we went out to see the animals. I loved the bears, otters, deer, and other things we found. We saw chipmunks, insects galore, 2 snakes and more bugs!

We did the Jr. Ranger activity and earner our Grandfather Mountain badges.

I clmbed everywhere that Mommy didn’t stop me!

Even under a 4000 ton, thats 8,000,000 pounds, boulder.

We turned into bears!

I learned the trees grow funny at the top. The winds must be dominating from one direction. The trees don’t grow tall. It looks like a bonsai villiage!

Checking out the vistas!

Enjoying my Grandma Jo time.

At the 1 mile high mark on the swinging suspension bridge.

I made it across!

WHAT a view!

Grandma Jo made it to the top. I ran and kept getting yelled at by Mom to slow down. I screamed back that I was an expert rock runner just as I tripped and fell. I slowed down then.

After the mountain we panned for gems in Linville.

Even Grandpa Howie helped out. He was in charge of the shovel.

Coon Tree Recreation Area

I always love stopping at CoonTree to search for salamanders and other things hidden in the frigid river. We brought nets and our spirit for adventure.

I turned over every rock I could find.

Looking under the rocks on the other side of the river.

I found a salamander on the big rocks but it snuck into a little crevasse and I couldn’t get it out.

I could have cared less that people were jumping off the rocks. I was more interested in the fish in the water.

I found a few cool rocks and that was really it. The water was too cold for good animal life.
